December 2024 - Christmas Dream

Writer's picture: Flipside of 40Flipside of 40

When we started this band in 2007, we were all in our 40s. Fast forward to nearly 20 years later, and here we are now all in our 60s. How did that happen?! Our kids are almost old enough to be in Flipside of 40! It is amazing (and a little scary) how quickly time flies by, and how fleeting all of the moments and experiences in life really are.

The staying power of strong connections with wonderful friends is also an amazing thing, and it has been such a joy to have all of us still writing songs together and being a part of each others' lives even though we are in different places. Ruppi now lives in Germany but visits regularly (and comes back to record drum tracks!), and Blake is in Florida. Even though we are so far apart physically, we are still managing to make music together!

The song we wrote for this year (Christmas Dream) came together because Robin loves snow, and insisted we write a happy song about the anticipation of snow and all of the feelings of being cozy and warm that goes with it. (Now I know some of you are thinking that the only feelings that go with the anticipation of snow are being cold and miserable, shoveling forever, and stressful driving, but work with me here!) Considering Paul is not nearly as big of a fan of snow as Robin is, he did an amazing job with the melody and lyrics, bringing to life those feelings of joy and anticipation. And Lynne, with her amazing way of painting a picture with the words she sings, added so much to the feeling as well.

It's been great getting the band back together!
